The Shadows Fall So Gently
Congregational hymn
Included in The Hymnbook for Congregational Singing
Minot Judson Savage
The shadows fall so gently A-down the eve’-ing sky,
And, one by one, so softly
The stars look out on high!
With quiet benediction,
That whispers. “All is best,”
The sky, like loving mother,
The tired earth soothes to rest.
And, through this outward quiet,
There comes an inward calm
That to the soul’s distraction
Applies its healing balm.
The wear-y heart looks up-ward,
And sees God’s stars at rest,
And hears his gentle whisper Down falling,
“All is best.” Amen
